PureSport is more than your average energy drink

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:01 pm

While drinks like Gatorade were actually created with athletes in mind, a little research will show that most sports drinks today are nothing more than sugar water with some food coloring and added vitamins. While this might not be bad for you and would certainly help hydrate you, an athlete needs more something with more nutritional value when they need to perform their best. Dr. John Ivy, Chairman of Health and Kinesiology at the University of Texas at Austin has created a new product to better help athletes bodies recover during strenuous activity. His sports drink, PureSport is a formula that contains protein – yes the one of the main ingredients in all those sports bars people swear by – and is rich in essential amino acids and provides quick muscle recovery. While you may not have heard much about it yet, just wait until the United States Olympic Swim Team starts racking up the medals next month in Beijing. Some of the world’s fastest swimmers not only us and endorse PureSport, but are PureSport Team members, including multiple World Champion, world record holder, and 6-time Olympic Champion, Michael Phelps. Joining Phelps are teammates and Olympic gold medalists Ian Crocker and Aaron Peirsol among many other up and coming swimming starts. So while many sports and energy drinks have big budgets and big names to promote their products, PureSport Workout and Recovery sports drink with protein, has pure athletes proving that this drink is no gimmick and is great for world class athletes or weekend warriors.

A little too much media favoratism for Obama?

Filed under: Politics — Tags: — admin @ 11:01 pm

It’s hard to watch the news, pick up a newspaper, or go to a news website without seeing images of Barrack Obama everywhere. While he’s clearly a popular figure as we enter the the final stages of the presidential election, some could argue that the media has already anointed him the next president. Sure, we now that mainstream media has always had some liberal bias, but never before has someone who has not been a major head of state, gotten so much press for a trip to the middle east. While this is really just meant for something for all of you to ponder, consider this; the trip to the middle east was with a group of other United States Senators. Has anyone heard a sound byte from any of them? I didn’t think so. Interesting indeed.

Making your hot tub a little more decorative

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:38 pm

Given that Jules and I spend a lot of time entertaining at different friends’ homes and cottages, as well as seeing various prospective new homes for us, I’ve seen a lot of hot tub set ups that seem to be displaced. While it can be difficult to always put things where you want them, the placement of a hot tub can be crucial to the look of your property, but also it is important to have a relaxing setting and atmosphere when you’re actually using the tub. All that being said, most hot tubs have very large covers that when taken off the top of the tub, need to go somewhere. I assume that most people just lean them up against the closest wall so that they can slip them back over the tub when done and there’s nothing wrong with that, but what if the underside of your hot tub cover was not just another one of your hot tub accessories, but had a picture that acted like a mural? While it may be hard to imagine such an idea, it really can add a certain something extra. These covers are affordable and can be custom trimmed and fit to match your hot tub. Maybe you can even chose one that shows a special vacation spot that you and yours like to enjoy when you can’t be there?

When weather isn’t a deterrent you find the simple rewards

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:30 pm

Having watched the season finale of The Deadliest Catch last night, the northwestern edge of the most recent tropical storm that is clipping the coast of Maine would not keep me from getting out to the boat tonight. No, I’m not someone who wants to emulate behavior or do something unsafe, but the inclement weather would not be a deterrent when my brother called to say that we should bag our plans to do some long-overdue work on the blocks and rigging. Instead of folding, I told him that a little weather shouldn’t stop us this time and we met at the yacht club ready to get wet. With the launch boat drivers dressed in their full four weather gear and my brother looking pretty much the same, we went out and got the job done. After completing a little hard work and getting really wet, a warm breeze blew through and the sky lightened up a little. Just as we finished we got a little respite from the wrath of Mother Nature. Just in time to get the launch back into shore…

Summertime in Beantown can’t be beat!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:01 am

Despite some pretty muggy weather and high car traffic, there are few places that I would rather spend the summer, than in or around Boston. I know what you’re thinking – why would anyone want to spend a summer or a summer vacation in Boston, but the possibilities from being centrally located in Boston, are endless. The best part of any Boston vacation is seeing the Boston Red Sox at historic Fenway Park. Built in 1912, it is currently the oldest ballpark in America. The summer vacation I spent in Boston was about 15 years ago, but memorable nonetheless. Aside from lots of sailing and baseball games, I went to malls, Newbury Street, Fanual Hall, the New England Aquarium, and the Boston Museum of Science. Unfortunately I never made it to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, but I had lots of great trips to places like Maine and Cape Cod. While I was there on an education vacation, so to speak, Trusted Tours & Attractions is a great place to check out scheduled city tours, planned events and other things to do in Boston. Log on to their site today and get expert advice from one of their online travel guides and sign up for the Trusted Travel eNewsletter, which will enter you into a drawing for a chance to win a $150.00 iTunes giftcard.

While I may not be one for racial rumors…

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:57 pm

…This has to be one of the most disturbing I’ve heard in a long time and I truly hope that it isn’t true. While some media has talked about it, it’s been pretty quiet, which makes me wonder, but tonight on a radio show there was an announcer talking about rumors out of China that police were being told to go around Beijing and tell bar owners not to serve blacks. I don’t want this to be true at any time, but to think of the spirit of the Olympics and the barriers that have been broken by such men as Jessie Owens. This notion makes me sick.

If paintball’s your sport, make sure to get the best gear!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:51 pm

As some of you know, I am fan of the old Robert Conrad show, High Mountain Rangers, and while watching an episode the other night I was reminded at just how long the sport of paintball has been around and how much it’s evolved. While this corporate group was in the Tahoe wilderness playing war games their equipment was all the same and their protective gear was minimal at best. Of course these days if you go out to a paintball facility you’ll see players with the latest guns from Tippmann and Spyder, but you also see a huge advance in the protective gear and tactical wear. Players could be wearing the latest Tippmann camo fusion pants, which not only blend in well, but have that level of protective cushion for safety. Match those up with a tactical vest and an Empire thermal mask and you’ll only need to worry about your aim. For the ultimate experience in paintball you need the best selection of paintball gear.

New movie and TV blog coming soon?

Filed under: Movies — admin @ 9:26 pm

So I’ve been thinking that it may be time for a new theme-oriented blog. I’ve always thought about doing a blog that is just for movies and television with reviews and opinions, but that would seem to be an awful lot of writing. It just seems that with all the posts in here, the good posts about specific movies get lost in the shuffle. It’s not there not there, but only people who read this every couple of days get to see them. The problem is that I really want a simple site and I really don’t want a Blogspot site because, well, because it’s Google, but it really is easy to set up and maintain. And then there’s the name. What would I name it??? Any good Twin Peaks references come to mind?

Supplement shouldn’t be a dirty word

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:29 pm

I think it’s very important to know that just because something is labeled a supplement doesn’t mean that it’s bad for you or shady. This image, which is often associated with the world has really been thrust upon us because of all the recent doping scandals in sports, but there are a lot of supplements that can not only be good for you, but can also help you with fitness in a safe and legal way. If you’re thinking of taking prohormones or another supplement, just make sure to do your homework first.

Does quick weight loss really exist?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:24 pm

My mother asked me what I want for my birthday today and after telling her nothing, she repeated her request until it got pretty annoying. So anyway, I’ve been thinking that because I need some extra help with my diet, that perhaps a good present would be for them to pay for part of the cost of a nutritionist for me. While I know this would be a big commitment with a lot of work and no quick weight loss, I think it would be worth it for me.

As Jules and I have made our rounds in the search for a new house, there have been a lot of different styles of interior decorating. Some I would say are pretty bland, some horrid, and others quite delightful, but the best houses have had well placed indoor lighting to accentuate the finer points of the house including architecture and artwork. What will you do to improve you home today?

When Papi comes to town, folks go nutty!

You’d think it was the biggest sporting event to happen in Maine history if you just happened to catch a story or two about David Ortiz and his rehab stint with the AA Portland Sea Dogs. Just of the DL for a wrist tear, Ortiz spent a few nights in Pawtucket before making the trip to Portland for a 3-game set and the city’s abuzz with excitement. While Sea Dogs games routinely sell out, people were buying sets of 4 tickets to games this week for over $300 just because Big Papi is in town. Amazing.

Stock research should and can be easier

As someone who is pretty active in the stock market, I can tell you that researching particular companies, stocks, or mutual funds can be time consuming, tedious, and even a little confusing. The buylist.com is helping make this whole process a whole easier, but more than that, they do some pretty sweet evaluations that stock research sites have never thought of doing before. For example, you can go to the site and get a comparison of your portfolio holdings through mutual fund transactions. This will allow you to see how the funds perform independently as opposed to their performance within the mutual fund. Who knows? Perhaps such Stock Advice will sway the way you invest and could even help out with things like 401ks or SEPs.

Is 34 the new 24? I think so!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:24 am

It was only a little over a year ago that I started my first blog. I only mention this because it was called 33 is the new 23 and it was likely a title I chose as I was about to turn 33 and yet felt much younger. As things would have it, that blog was pretty good and got some fans, but the Blogger (Google) account was not for me. I liked the ease of use, but hated dealing with Google and they pretty much screwed over myself and every other blogger I know. Anyway, the reason I’m writing this now is because the “33” is coming to an end, but yet I’m constantly hearing that 34 is indeed the new 24. Amazing!

Lester fits stopper role

Going into Monday night’s game against Seattle, the Red Sox had lost 4 straight and had fallen out of the AL East lead. With the game on the west coast, both the Rays and Yankees had already won their games by the time Jon Lester took the mound in what could be seen as a crucial game for the Seattle area native, who was 9-3 going into last night. Lester didn’t disapoint as he pitched 7 1/3 shut out innings and was supported with timely hitting by Jason Varitek and Jed Lowry. The Red Sox won for only the scond time in 4 games in the Emerald City to keep pace with their AL East foes.

Take a walk and help fight Alzheimer’s disease this fall

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:42 pm

In 1991 I was in a hotel in Budapest, Hungary when I called my home in Portland, Maine to see if one of my siblings was home for the weekend from college. I was surprised to find my mother answer the phone and devastated to learn that while she was supposed to be at our home in London, she had gone back to Maine as my grandfather had just died. While I have a vivid memory of that night and how helpless I felt, I know that for a long time leading up to his death, my grandfather lost many of his faculties, not the least of which was his memory. I recall the first time my mother explained Alzheimer’s disease to me. We had just been to the nursing home to see him and he didn’t know who I was. This was a few years before that night he passed and he lived with this horrible disease for too long. And while one of my grandmother’s also had the disease, in the 17 years that have gone by since either had suffered, the advances in treatment and diagnostics are not just encouraging, but on the verge of groundbreaking. Each year, thousands of Americans take part in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. This event is held in over 600 communities nationwide and is the leading event to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. If you want to get involved and help solve this devastating illness, please take a moment and check out the website. Whether you want to walk, sponsor, someone, or volunteer, any help will go a long way.

Sox swept by Angels…

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:29 pm

If you happen to be a fan of the Boston Red Sox, this past weekend was like the end of the world. Falling out of first place was nothing, but getting swept by any team is pretty bad. Okay, so the Angels have the best record in baseball, but it doesn’t matter, we’re Red Sox fans and this is doom and gloom. Of course, it isn’t realistically, but heading to Seattle isn’t a settling feeling given that the Sox never play well in the Emerald city and are usually lucky to come away with a victory.

What the frack is going on with Battlestar Galactica?

Filed under: Movies — admin @ 7:09 am

I’m hoping that this post will illicit some positive news of the BSG front. What’s BSG, you ask. That would be Battlestar Galactica and sadly, it is coming to a close, but as you’ve read from earlier posts, we can’t fret over this because BSG is more than this particular 4-season masterpiece that will soon end its run. It’s about the original series, it’s about Galatica 1980, it’s about Razor, and it’s even about the long-rumored prequel series, Caprica. And while the 4th season came to an abrupt, yet most likely intentional halt a few weeks back with the discovery of Earth, (A lot different that with Galactica 1980, I must say) I haven’t a clue how many episodes are left or what’s going on. Sci-Fi has said anything on the air and they haven’t said anything about Caprica, the show, not the blogger. So if someone can tell me what gives, I would appreciate it.

Get the best Nintendo DS games from HMV.com

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:43 am

Suffice to say, things surely change a lot in 15 or so years, but I still have fond memories of strolling down Oxford Street in London and checking out the huge HMV store just off Bond Street station. I would stay in there for hours looking at cassettes, CDs, and Nintendo video games. This was before anyone was marketing anything online, but I always remember that HMV had really good deals on things that were not only hot items, but also on things I actually wanted. That was huge for me. Of course times change, I moved back here to the states, and we can all do most of our shopping online. It’s really good to know that at HMV.com, they are still offering those same great deals that I got when I shopped in the store, but online as well. It may not be very easy for me to hop on the Jubilee Line and go to the store, but I can surely go online and browse at all the Nintendo Ds Games HMV.com has to offer. While the games are all different than the ones I would browse back in the day, there are some awesome titles to choose from and even though it can be really hard to pick a favorite, I would have to say that Scrabble is just too good and too classic to be overlooked.

Getting hooked on The Deadliest Catch!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:40 am

Yes, there was an intended pun in the title and I have to say that I am pleased that yesterday I got a text message from Jules indicating that she was tuned into The Deadliest Catch marathon. I had told her several times that I was and am a big fan of the show, but I never expected her to watch or like the show, nor would I have even asked her to watch it if we were watching TV together, but she found it on her own and watched the whole thing. How cool was it for me to compare favorite cast members today? It’s the little things in life, right?

Sox Road Woes Continue

Filed under: Major League Baseball — admin @ 7:26 pm

Despite having gone into the All Star break with the lead in the AL East, the Boston Red Sox were assured of only one thing; they had to go on the road after the break and the road has not been a friendly place for the Sox this year. Heading into Sunday’s game, the Sox had lost two straight in Anaheim and were a dismal 10 games below .500 no the road. While the season is just past the halfway mark, everyone knows that no one can advance in baseball’s playoffs without being able to win on the road and if the Sox continue to play this way, the wild card could even be a stretch…

Multi-media and web design can be so crucial to a business. While there are surely companies in certain industries that can get by with having an average website with basic information and not too much creativity, most businesses these days have chosen to go with web designers that can make the company website shine. There are some websites that truly do the trick by showing pictures and posting information and then there are others with interactive sections, video sections, and flash capabilities. I think you can tell by my site, that I haven’t clue how to do any of this, but I am very fascinated by what the folks at 352 Media Group in proving to be the best in Atlanta web design.

Manny just being a jackass!

Filed under: Major League Baseball — admin @ 8:54 pm

As a Red Sox fan, I have to say that if the stories about Manny Ramirez throwing an at bat are true, I will have lost any respect there was left to have for the man. Manny being Manny stopped being funny when he had the altercation with the team’s traveling secretary, but then when he found out about the 6 figure fine by the team he takes three strikes without swinging from Mariano Rivera, to prove a point to the Red Sox management???? Let’s just say that I really hope this is false because I wouldn’t want him on our team if it turns out to be true.

Make sure you get the money you deserve from a car accident

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:51 am

So much of what happens on the road is beyond our control and yet after we have an accident, it seems like so much of what happens next is beyond our control as well. Let’s say someone side swipes you in you car and takes out your quarter panel and you get it fixed. You’re all set, right? You’ve fixed the car and it looks and drives brand new, but because of the accident, the car is said to have diminished value and thus you’re now faced with getting much less when or if you decide to sell it. What about the insurance company? Did they pay you that money? I ask because that diminished value is often payable to you, but most people don’t even know it, which is one way that insurance companies make money off a car accident. While it’s not their fault for making the money, there’s no reason they should get to keep it all.

When Walt Disney Wanted to Ski!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:36 am

Back in the 1970’s, a man by the name of Walt Disney had a unique vision for a southern California valley that while destined for failure, was ahead of its’ time, like so many of his creations. And yet this was different in that Disney had eyes on a parcel of land called Mineral King Valley for a major southern California ski resort that would attract thousands of skiers from greater Los Angeles and south. While located on Forest Service land, Disney wanted to create a European style resort in that he planned a car-free village with use of the now famous monorails that had been installed in his two original parks as well as Seattle. Despite the environmental efforts, Disney’s and other developers’ bids were ultimately all denied and this steep-walled valley remains untouched.

A year ago no one would have suspected that J.D. Drew would have been named the MVP of the MLB All-Star Game, but this guy really is having one hell of a year. When David Ortiz went down, Drew picked up the slack and then some. On Tuesday night he showed the rest of both leagues what he’s been doing to opponents by knocking in a two-run homer and adding another base hit in the American League’s 15-inning win. And of course the fact he won it in Yankee Stadium, after A-Rod took off, doesn’t hurt either.

Sci-Fi finally gets a clue

Well it’s about time. I think Jeremiah originally came out on Showtime in 2004 and was cancelled after two seasons. Correction, it was cancelled well-before the second half of the second season ever aired. Starring Luke Wilson, Malcom Jamal Warner, and Sean Astin, Jeremiah was one of the most original and inspiring sci-fi shows I’ve ever seen. It got a cult following after the release of the first season on DVD and there was a strong hope that someone would pick it up, like the Sci-Fi Channel, but it never happened and the creator said he didn’t want to do it anymore. I don’t buy it. I think he would have made more episodes and I think the two aforementioned actors would have signed on. Now, four and a half years later, Jeremiah is on syndication on Sci-Fi. So again I asked, what took so long?

Fine without James Posey

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:48 pm

The big news in sports yesterday was about James Posey signing a 4-year deal with the New Orleans Hornets, but to be honest, I think it’s much ado about nothing. Sure, Posey was a big part of the Celtics’ bench this season, especially in the playoffs, but if the Celts hadn’t won the championship, people wouldn’t have lined up to get this journeyman guard. Yes, he’s a talent, but the Celts obviously aren’t too worried about finding a replacement if they didn’t want to go 4 years for him and I agree. I would have loved to have kept him, but 4 years for his caliber is not what they need and despite all the talk, New Orleans overpaid.

An alternative to high-prices marine supply stores!

It’s only about a third through the sailing season and I find myself in need of some supplies. After an odd occurrence, we already ended up getting new oars for the dingy, but now I’m thinking that at bosun’s chair would be pretty handy to have on the boat, especially as there are some things I want to fix with the rigging and halyards. Of course I often find it’s pretty easy to drive down to the local marine store, but quite frankly, they can really pack a punch on the wallet with the captive audience. Of course it’s also good to know that there are other options for boat equipment right here online.

I think that one of the aspects that really sets this company apart from other college painting services is the commitment to customer service. In the painting business it seems somewhat of a rarity, but CollegeWorks doesn’t take that attitude. Who else offers a 2-year labor and materials guarantee? Exactly. Born of frustration

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:12 am

Yesterday was long, very long, even by my standards and when the day ended I couldn’t help but feel anxious. It was almost as if I felt like I didn’t accomplish anything while at work, but somehow I knew I did. It was frustrating and I was in no mood to be around people or really do anything. In short, it was very hard, but I knew I had to fight out of it. So off to the ocean I went. Yep, it was already 7:30, but I still went out to see if I could somehow find solace on the sea by myself. And after racing around Casco Bay at high speeds in the Avon, I felt a little better. I still don’t know the cause of this, but thinking about it is even a little disheartening.

Lots of people want to be entrepreneurs and/or business owners, but such a notion isn’t as simple as just having a desire. In a perfect world, this would be the case, but realistically, people need to have the means to get ideas to the fruition. So what if you had an outlet to share you business ideas and proposals where you knew others would not only listen, but may even like your ideas so much that you got a business off the ground? This idea alone has come to be a reality with Gogme.biz, a new business social networking site that isn’t some silly place to trade friend requests and props, but rather, to exchange ideas, earn points, and get involved in viable money making businesses. Don’t just sit there and imagine what it would be like to contribute, actually do something about it with Globally Owned Globally Managed Enterprise.

What’s up with the oil?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:15 pm

With a drop of $6 per barrel, today’s drop in oil prices was the largest percentage drop in one day in over 20 years. So what does this mean to you? Does it mean things will get better at the pump? I’m afraid it’s a big no to both of those questions and for good reason – there’s no one reason for the large drop today aside from speculators seeing a possible decline in demand from China when the Olympics are over. So yes, this was a one shot deal for the time being, but I have also had a theory that the market will react to a very complicated combination of speculation that includes a renewal of American’s being in favor of drilling along with that taking some of the pressure and power away from OPEC. If you’re thinking that drilling off the United States coast wouldn’t produce oil for a couple of years and thus couldn’t have an immediate impact, well, you’re right and you’re wrong. No, oil couldn’t be produced for a couple of years, but the prospect of the future oil could mean more production from OPEC countries who may fear less demand in the future and thus less profit, which could be beneficial if they attempt to get the profit now. Complicated? Somewhat. Fascinating? Extremely.

Park West has the ocean covered in art

Regardless of where you do your shopping, you are always well-advised to do product research before you buy and while some people are skeptical of cruise ship art auctions, there are certainly many credible onboard auctions going on these days. Many of these are conducted by highly reputable art sellers from cultural centers like New York. For example, Park West Galleries has been selling fine art throughout the world for years, on board ships in the Caribbean they operate through their affiliate company Park West at Sea, who conducts the auctions at sea. Check out all that Park West has to offer, enjoy their musings and their wonderful collection, and then enjoy a piece of their fine art.

Latin America seem to be The Ruins for lots of American Turistas!

So there I was last night, hanging out and watching CSI: Miami shortly after midnight. As it was the beginning of Season 5, the episode was partly set in Rio, which made me think of a couple movies I’ve seen that are set in Mexico and Brazil. The reason I mention Mexico is because I saw The Ruins last week and thought it was pretty darned creative for a gory horror flick. Additionally, with Jena Malone as the lead, it was well-cast. How much can you do with four 20-somethings going into the Mexican forest to look for a pyramid? Find out for yourself ‘cause this one is pretty interesting. As for the Brazil-based flick, well that would be a movie I saw last year called Turistas. First, this has Melissa George so it is automatically a great flick. Period. Seriously though, I was skeptical of this movie as well. I mean Josh Dumel running around a beach and though the Brazilian rain forest? Yep, it worked. This movie has big shock factor, but it is actually more believable than The Ruins. Regardless, both are worth votes from me and I would watch either again.

I got a 93 on BillsIQ test, how about you?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:15 am

As I was taking the test on Bills IQ, I knew that there were some answers that obviously would have raised my score, but at the same time I wanted to be as accurate as possible. The one that annoyed me was regarding the thought of my overall financial picture. Whereas I know that I plan well and have some pretty good plans, one of the choices was “It causes me stress,” which was what I chose for an answer and yes, it brought my score down. I think this test was great because it asked some unique questions about my finances and planning that made me think and I hope that others who take t do the same. Sure, I said that my finances cause me stress and it’s true, but it’s not because I’m not doing well with them, but rather, it’s because I worry about things like that. I think that it’s human nature and if I were to say that I’m totally relaxed and secure about my finances and financial future, it may be indicative of me being complacent, which in my opinion, can be dangerous. Like many others who will take this test, I’m one who has student loans, which constitute my only real amounts of dept, but not to the point where I need any Debt consolidation. Thankfully I have my finances in a position where I can afford to concentrate on my retirement savings and the purchase of my first home, but a lot of people will take this test and realize that they need Debt relief, but don’t know where to go to find it. It’s a tough time for most American’s right now and people seeking Debt help is at near record levels. It is for all the reasons above that I urge you to take this test and make sure that you know what’s going on with your money and your future.

Sox in first going into the All Star break!

Filed under: Major League Baseball — admin @ 12:00 am

While they may not have made it easy on themselves today, The Red Sox were able to hold off the pesky Orioles for a 2-1 win. Of course the bigger picture is that going into today’s game the Sox were a 1/2 game behind the Tampa Bay Rays. The Sox did their part by securing the win while the Cleveland Indians gave us a little help by sending the Rays to their 7th straight loss. With all the teams off until later in the week for the All Star break, the Red Sox have retaken first place in the AL East. Meanwhile, the hapless Yankees lost another game to Toronto.
